Front Fender Dress Up
Why Bother?
Well, the boys in Korea clearly didn't adequately road test thier Uber-Cruiser. I believe this is because the front fender does not go "down" far enough to properly protect the "pretend chrome" radiator cover from kicked up road debris. Several others have done home made mudflaps out of various materials.
In keeping with the hyper chromed decoration already a GV650 trademark, I chose to adapt one of the many fender extensions available for the Honda Goldwing series. I stopped by a Honda dealer and measured the current models, but they didn't quite fit. But I guessed that the earlier vintages might be right on, so I picked a model 52-554 from Show Chrome Accessories. The retail on this item is just under $30, but I got mine via eBay for $15+shipping!
As it turned out, the 1500 series was almost perfect. The only difference was that the GV650 flared towards the front right at the bottom. I could have cut the GV back to be a perfect fit, but didn't want to risk messing up the paint job right now, so I chose to grind off the "flair" on the flap itself. When I repaint the bike (as I surely will eventually), I'll match them up then.
In the meantime, as you can see in the pictures below, the extension looks just fine! And with the addition of the stick on chrome door edging (available at your FLAPS for about $15 a roll), the front fender now looks like it belongs with the rest of the bike instead of something Hyosung used because they got it on sale somewhere!
